Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate increased slightly to 8.6% year-on-year in June from 8.0% , the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics said in its monthly report published on Wednesday.
On a month-on-month basis, it increased by 0.8% in June 2020 as compared to an increase of 0.3% in the previous month and an increase of 0.5% in June 2019.
According to the bureau, prices of eggs, tomatoes, wheat, flour, fresh vegetables, and chicken were all increased in June. It may possibly increase further this month according to the current trend.
Petroleum prices which had decreased by a significant amount in previous weeks shot up again last week across the country. This will have a considerable impact in next month’s CPI.
