KElectric says power outages in Karachi due to shortage of furnace oil

On Thursday Kelectric issued a statement saying that the prolonged power outages in the metropolis is due to shortage of furnace oil, as the National Assembly members questioned the service provider about the power utility.

Kelectric tweeted that the demand has crossed 3450 MW due to extreme hot and humid weather in Karachi these days. It also added that KE has been updating the concerned authorities about their difficulties in power supply and the ministry has decided to import furnace oil. Hence, most likely situation will normalize in coming days.

Nepra has also taken notice of loading shedding and over billing.

A day earlier, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) had taken notice of the consumer’s complaints about the unannounced load shedding. They have directed KE to submit a detailed report against the complains. On over billing they have strictly warned KE to take remedial actions and report to them on immediate basis.

Citizens in Karachi took to streets to protect against power outages. They blocked the main roads to the bring the issue in light of the concerned authorities.
